Evaluation of Abnormal Pap Smears

This is one of our most common procedures. If your pap smear is abnormal you will most likely need to have a COLPOSCOPY. This is a procedure that involves looking at your cervix with a high powered microscope. Areas of your cervix that appear abnormal will then be biopsied. For most women this is well tolerated. Dr. Rudman will take extra time to explain the procedure and what you might feel. For most women the anxiety about the results are worse than the biopsy.

The biopsy results usually take 3-4 days. Most women do not need anything further than a repeat pap. A small percentage of women will need to have a LEEP biopsy. This procedure is scheduled in out patient surgery and is a 15 minute procedure that is both diagnostic and usually completely curative of any cervical disease.
